Cutting 2019’s Pie

With a large turnout of friends and members of the House of Europe in Rhodes, the annual Cut of its Pie for 2019 took place and the Awards of the House of 2018 were awarded on Wednesday, January 23, at the Plaza Hotel “Thalia”.

The event was honored with the presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Rhodes Mr. Kyrillos, who also blessed the pie, the South Aegean Regional Adviser on Education and Lifelong Learning Ms. Haroula Yassirani, representing the Regional Governor Mr. George Hatzimarkos, the Deputy Mayor of the Medieval City, Culture and Sports Mr. Teris Chatziioannou, representing the Rhodes’ Mayor Mr. Fotis Hatzidiakos, the Commander of 95 SNGC Lieutenant General Grigorios Roumanis, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism Ms. Marisa Hatzilazarou, the Regional Advisor and President of the SAR Nursery Mr. Michalis Barianos , the RMSCO President Mr. Stefanos Kyriazis, the President of the Museum of Modern Greek Art of the Municipality of Rhodes Mr. Nikolaos Fronas, the Dodecanese Antiquities Commissioner Ms. Maria Michaelidou, the Vice President of DDPC Ms. Maritana Alakiotou-Anthopoulou, representing DCC the President of the University of the Aegean Professor Ekaterini Frantzi, the former Mayor and President of the Stamatiou Foundation Mr. Manos Kokkinos, the Director of Secondary Education in the Dodecanese Mr. Ioannis Papadomarkakis, the Director of Rhodes VTI Mr. Panagiotis Kountouris, the Dodecanese Deputy Regional Governor Mr. Charalambos Kokkinos, the AATP Rhodes President Mr. Alexandros Choulis, the former Member of the Dodecanese Mr. Vasilios Ypsilantis, the candidate Member of KINAL Parliament Ms. Eleftheria-Paraskevi Ftaklaki and many other friends and members of the House of Europe in Rhodes.

The evening was opened by the President of the House of Europe in Rhodes, Mr. Michalis Kavuklis, with a brief but comprehensive speech, which summarized the situation in Europe, the threat of the European elections and the importance of our participation in them, as in any other election’s procedure. Significant part of his report was the completion of the revision of the House Statute, the status of the House Roof, the extremely successful success of this year’s International Rhodes Regional RhodesMRC International Conference on RhodesMRC, and both Erasmus + strategic exchange programs running the House with partners from all over Europe.

Reference was also made to the multiple actions of the House already planned or prepared for 2019, such as the 7th Day for Europe, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, the European Music Festival, the actions of the two European programs, the development of the # local2european events and of course the official institutionalization of RhodesMRC on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

Then, His Eminence Metropolitan of Rhodes Mr. Kyrillos, blessed the two pies, one for the House and one for the RhodesMRC, and after delivering the customary piece on Christ to the President of the House, congratulated the Board and the House members on the success and variety of actions At the same time, he wished in the upcoming European elections, the peoples of Europe, with his choices, to help bring Europe back on the path to a Europe of Values, a path that, as His Excellency said, has now lost.

Furthermore, began the process of awarding the 2018 Europe House Awards, which were established this year, as a little thank you to the people, institutions and businesses that helped achieve the House’s statutory goals. All of the awardees spoke of the House’s outstanding contribution to the development of Rhodes, but also reaffirmed their commitment to continue and deepen their cooperation with the House in the future.

The beautiful evening ended with a musical performance by the Music School of Rhodes, which under the guidance of Evangelos Mandila, performed three exceptionally beloved music tracks.
